People walk in the snow in Nederland, Colorado on Thursday. A spring snowstorm that swept across Colorado dropped 28 inches of snow on the town west of Boulder.

A storm system that brought cool temperatures, cloudy skies and several feet of snow to the high country was headed out of the state Friday, making way for warming temperatures and mostly clear skies this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

Winter weather advisories for the northern and central mountains, which received up to 3 feet of snow, were lifted Friday morning, said Mike Charnick, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. More specifically, parts of Boulder County received 38 inches of snow and Estes Park received 31 inches.

“We do have a chance for showers in some of the central and northern mountains of Colorado, but I think in your direction, it’s going to be dry,” Charnick said.

The high temperature Saturday in Durango is expected to hit 60 degrees and the high Sunday is expected to be in the upper 60s, he said.

A chance of showers is possible Sunday in the San Juan Mountains, he said.

Forecasters said next week appears to be mostly dry, with a possibility of scattered showers Friday afternoon around Durango, but clear skies are likely for Memorial Day weekend, which is good news for participants in this year’s Iron Horse Bicycle Classic.

With warming temperatures, snowpack in the San Juan Basin is melting. The snowline Friday appeared to be about 9,500 feet to 10,000 feet in elevation, according to the San Juan Mountains Association.

Pine River Trail, Purgatory Flats trail and Vallecito Trail are mostly free of snow.
